The Asian Intensive Reader of Pneumoconiosis Project (AIR Pneumo) has been established with an aim to upgrade skills of specialists in developing countries on the application of the ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses and to contribute to the implementation of the ILO/WHO Global Program for Elimination of Silicosis (GPES).

ILO International Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconioses
ILO Classification is useful tools for screening and surveirance about pneumoconioses. The classification provides the a means for describing and recording systematically the radiographic abnormalities in the chest provoked by the inhalation of dusts. The object is abnormalities on Posterior-Anterior chest radiographs about any type of pneumoconiosis.
Scope of the Classification
- Describe and systematically record the radiographic abnormalities in the chest provoked by the inhalation of dusts
- Any type of pneumoconiosis
- Only findings seen on postero-anterior chest radiographs are classified
Object of the Classification
- To codify the radiographic abnormalities of the pneumoconiosis in a simple, reproducible manner
The Classification
- does not define pathological entities
- does not take into account working capacity
- It does not imply legal definitions of pneumoconiosis for compensation purposes
- It does not set or imply a level at which compensation is payable
Contens of the Classification
- Film Quality
- Parenchymal Abnormality ( Small Opacities, Large Opacities )
- Pleural Abnormality ( Pleural Plaque, Diffuse Pleural thickening )
- Symbols ( various findings and diseases )
- Comments
